Sea Dog, River Fowey

Dogs and other animals

While there are obviously some restrictions on beach access, you may be surprised to know that, all year round, more Cornish beaches allow dogs than not. There are numerous beach guides telling you where you can and can’t go, but a good starting point is the website www.thecornishcoast.co.uk.

There are also plenty of pubs which welcome dogs. Less definitive than the beach guide, but again worth a look, is www.doggiepubs.org.uk.

With our own experience of taking (rather lively!) dogs all around Cornwall, we are more than happy to offer more specific advice when you’re here. Beyond where you can and can’t go, you might like to check that you’re not, for example, going to end up on a remote beach which has no shade and no fresh water on a blisteringly hot day...

Similarly, we have plenty of local information on the more mundane (and hopefully academic) matters such as vets, kennels etc.
The 'other animals' bit relates to the fact that both here and in the countryside at large there are not only other dogs, but also cats, sheep, goats, horses, cattle etc. Generally speaking everyone seems to rub along just fine, but obviously young and untrained dogs need a watchful eye, and we definitely don’t recommend bringing dogs which are known to have trouble socialising!

We love dogs, and judging by the comments we have had, dogs love Trevadlock. There is wonderful walking right here, leading to thousands of acres of open space on the moor, or the wonderful North and South Coastal Paths.

Please read the dog section under Booking Conditions.
